First Stop: Hong Kong.

January 10 - 13, 2009

By the time the semester ended, I was more than ready to get my butt out of Zhuzhou and head to Hong Kong where I would meet up with Lauren and begin our much needed vacation from China. (FYI: Lauren is my friend from America who is also teaching English in China this year, but in a different province. We have been friends since seventh grade). Being my second time in Hong Kong, I was the designated tour guide for the three and a half days we spent there. Though I had fun exploring new parts of HK, it had lost some of its appeal from my previous trip in October when I was in awe of everything western. This time I really just wanted to get to Thailand.

Some highlights from our time in Hong Kong:

We spent a day on Lantau Island, home of the HK International Airport, HK Disneyland, and *the largest outdoor seated Buddha.* Can you guess which one we saw? Though we enjoyed our time, it would have been even better if we had gone on any other day than Sunday, when all the prices are doubled.

The following evening we headed up to Victoria Peak, the famous lookout point in Hong Kong and major tourist attraction (there is a wax museum up there!). Once again, however, our timing was off and we ended up hanging out for four hours waiting for the sun to set so we could see the view at night.
