Mexican Food and Chopsticks

Tonight I hosted a “Mexican” dinner with Ashley for a few of the Chinese English teachers at our school. None of our fellow teachers had ever eaten Mexican food before (I know, right??) and we were excited to provide them with this opportunity (and, not going lie, we were pretty pumped about eating Mexican food, too).

Rather than describe our meal in words, I will provide you with a photo to drool over:

And, let me tell you, it tasted amazing. For a few minutes, I was transported back to America. But then the chopsticks came out, serving as a reminder that I am definitely still in China. For you can’t have a meal without them. Even if it is Mexican food (there was rice, after all).

And I learned that chopsticks aren’t just used for eating…but for washing dishes as well.

After dinner we played a dice game I brought from home, while we listened to Latin music...which eventually evolved into practicing Chinese with my flashcards (they got a good laugh out of that) and snacking on Chinese pastries until it was time for them to go home.

Overall, the evening was a success. Good food, good friends…who could ask for more?

**This night would not have been possible without the generous package of beans, taco shells, tortillas, taco seasoning, and hot sauce from my mom! THANK YOU! :-)
